Speakeasy pops-up at Cheshire Festival
Amongst the eclectic mix of funk, soul, acoustic, choir, blues, embroidery and art of the 12th Audlem Music & Arts Festival, was a "Pop-Up 1920s Speakeasy".
The monochrome décor set the scene along with images of the period, props and an original flapper dress from the "roaring twenties" displayed.
Over the three days, stunning, jazz vocalist Bexi Owen was the bar's resident songstress singing the work of composers like Gershwin and artists such as Ella Fitzgerald.
Charleston lessons were a highlight of the event, as Neil & Ellie of 1920s ballroom "The Academy Buckley" taught the steps as well as provided energetic crowd-pleasing demonstrations. Local reflexologist Kate Goodwin was amongst those that joined in with the classes; "absolutely fantastic and very well instructed".
For the younger visitors The Academy for Performing Arts, Betley, showcased routines from Bugsy Malone and offered workshops to learn the apt closing number from the show; "Fat Sam's Grand Slam Speakeasy"!
Visitors could also engage in more relaxing "jazz era" inspired activities including flapper head dress making, explore the "pop-up" museum, listen to a live gramophone medley and partake in the 1920s quiz. Fads of the decade that were not reproduced however were Goldfish Swallowing & flagpole sitting!
